HISTORY

Daytona Beach became the vacation spot of wealthy northern tycoons in the later 1800s. They began to develop it and soon it was the prime location for a quick weekend getaway or a long summer stay. Nowadays Daytona Beach welcomes tens of thousands of spring breakers each year. Popular among the northeastern crowd and western students looking to satisfy their need for speed or hit up some amusement parks in the not so distant Orlando, this beach has been providing tons of spring break action for decades.

DAYTIME ACTIVITIES

Daytona Beach Spring Break and the surrounding area are packed with activities for every person’s tastes. From auto racing and hotdogs at the speedway to parasailing and flying high above the water looking out at the ocean and shoreline. Or enjoy some historical sites and take a tour. There are of course lots of water related activities such as kayaking, canoeing, jet boats and skis, deep sea fishing and more. Some hotels host competitions and contests for spring breakers and the prizes can range from a slap on the back to a free hour of drinks! .

THE NIGHTLIFE

There are several bars and lounges right on the beach and lots more within walking distance. Like rock ‘n’ roll music and hard liquor? DRESS CODE

Bikini and a tan. Most establishments require shoes and a shirt but many beachside bars and patio restaurants forgo even those requirements. The clubs all have dress codes at night and are strictly enforced. It is not a topless beach so if you desire to bare it all you need to find somewhere else.

THE WEATHER

Located on the northeast shores of Florida, Daytona Beach has lots of sun and gentle breezes to provide the perfect temperature almost every day of the year. The average temperature during March and April is in the high 70s F so you’ll be able to wear your bathing suit all day long if you want and get a tan. .

TRANSPORTATION

There are taxis to take you from one place to another or railroad and bus system. What separates this beach destination from most others though is that you can drive your own vehicle up onto the beach. The beach used to be used for auto racing so the sand is extremely fine.

MONEY

The U.S. dollar and coin is accepted everywhere. Most restaurants, hotels and shops will accept credit cards, namely Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Traveler’s checks and money orders/cashier’s checks can be used at some facilities or exchanged at banks.

The typical set up in the U.S.A. and Canada: 110 Volts, 60 cycles, A.C.

TIME ZONE

Las Vegas is located in the Pacific Time Zone and follows PST.

TIPPING

Most people tip around 15% on restaurants and bar tabs, $2 (U.S.) per person for bellboys, and $2 (U.S.) per room/per night for maids. On large parties of eight or more, most restaurants will include a tip of 18% in the bill for you.

DINING AND DRINKING

There are a wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from all along the beach and throughout the town, over 400 to be exact. Spring Break Daytona Beach is well known for its classic American as well as its Seafood restaurants. Hours vary from place to place but you can find something open from 6 am for breakfast the wee hours of morning. Many bars stay open to 2 am. The legal drinking age is 21. .

ABOUT THE WATER

The water is perfectly safe to drink in all restaurants, hotels and public drinking fountains. The ocean water is safe to go in and drink although it is very salty.
